This track is an edit for the Daytona_1970 done by Wrangler and Rioux and was edited with their permission.

All credit goes to them and their team for everything in this track.

All I did was change some things, added some things and moved some things.

I borrowed the score board and some other TSOs from Michigan70 by "jonhpr" (USPits handle) of Machesney Park,Ill whose web site is listed as http://www.stors-racing.com which is no longer a working link. Thx to "Mr_Too_Slow" for the credits of the Michigan70 track. If anybody knows "jonhpr", please ask him to contact me via the USPits, www.delta-simracing.com or email at ziggym@comcast.net

What I did to this track -
In 1970, the cars were fast... The track record that year was 194.015 MPH and that record stood for 10 years. With chassis 1, that kind of speed was not going to be touched so I changed the chassis to chassis 5. This makes the car capable of turning laps into the 190's with a bit of practice. Most likely, your first attempt to flat foot it through T1 will end in a spin... But, if you run the high line, get some heat into the tires and lift a little into the turns, you will have better results.

Why didn't I use chassis 2? Chassis 2 sticks too well IMO. I like chassis 5 for all the GN70 tracks since it feels heavy, doesn't like to turn or stop and accelerates a bit slower than chassis 2. It doesn't feel as 'nice' as chassis 2 so it takes some throttle and wheel work to get it to go where you want it to. I think it and the CTS are perfect for the GN70 cars.

The track record (qualifying) in the league I run is 194.788 MPH and that was with cloudy weather, 75 degrees and wind North at 13 MPH. Sunny and 70 with no wind will be slower, of course. Using your normal 'restricted' truck setup, you will get the same speeds as chassis 1. Lower the spoiler, lower the tire pressures, soften the rear springs and you will find it easier to go faster.

There are 3 grooves with the high line having the most grip. The low line will be hard to run untilt he tires get warmed up. In traffic, flat footing will not be possible. You will have to lift a bit for the turns to keep from heading into the wall.

I used as many pictures and videos I could find to get this track close to accurate but I know some things are not accurate to 1970. The "GoodYear" building didn't have anything on it and the garages are not the right type, but I couldn't find a big, tin roofed garage like what was there in 1970 so I used what I could find.

This is not meant to be a 100% accurate track to what it was in 1970. The most important thing is that you have fun racing it!

Bugs -
I'm sure the AI needs work.
The pit road speed limit is set to 70 to prevent the AI from driving up the walls (that's a bug if the pit road speed limit is over 70 so we have to live with it)
For online racing, change the pit road speed limit to 200 and you can run like there's not speed limit! For my league, we have a rule that under yellow we keep it at 70 when pitting under yellow to prevent people from passing the leader when pitting and it's worked well for many years.
Shadows - I spent DAYS working to make the shadows fall like it was high noon only to discover that I have no clue how the make the sun appear at 12 o clock... So, the shadows fall like it's noon, but the car shadows and the sun look like it's around 5 PM on a Summer day... I didn't go back and change all the shadows but hope, instead, to some day figure out how to change where the sun is in the sky (just need to learn to move a star, no biggie, right?).

If you see something goofy or have suggestions on how to make this track better, email me or PM me or post something at the Delta msg board and I'll get back to you.

If you would like to improve this track by working with the AI or anything else, please contact me.

This track may only be posted at www.delta-simracing.com unless permission is granted by Wrangler, Rioux and ZiggyM since they made the original I tweaked and I got permission from them to host it at my site. Please don't repost without permission.

The included readme.txt from the original track contains the credits and also the distribution information for this track as well so read it.

Have fun and thx for racing!
